you have a special talent and a little bit of time, please let us know and
we will be glad to put you to work to benefit the children at Chaires!
Special thanks to the PTO for their hard work coordinating our Grandparents
Day Lunch today!

School Advisory Council
Our first School Advisory Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday,
September 12th at 5:00 p.m. in the Media Center. All parents, community
members and business members who can commit to meeting one evening per
month are welcome to join us! We work together to monitor implementation
of the School Improvement Plan and monitor safety at Chaires.

Flag Ceremony
The Cub Scout Wolf Den conducted a flag ceremony on September 5, 2006. The
scouts, dressed in their uniforms, participated by learning to raise and
lower the school flag and fold it for storage in the afternoon. Thank you
to the following students for learning how to respect our flag: Cole
Bakotic, Dalton Pafford, Joshua Liles, Troy Yeomans, and Joey Daniels.
CLEMONS CORNER
Teachers will be sending home PROGRESS ALERTS on Tuesday, September 12th.
A progress alert is a written piece of documentation that informs the
parent and child of their progress midway through the 9 week period. A
child may receive a progress alert if he or she is not making
passing/satisfactory grades in the areas outlined on the report card. You
may also receive a progress alert if attendance has been unacceptable.
If your child receives a progress alert, it is extremely important that you
discuss it with your child. Also, set some expectations for your child so
that he/she may improve in the particular area(s). Remember to sign the
progress alert and return to your childˇ¦s teacher.

Nourishing Family Traditions
Kick-start the day with a balanced breakfast- Include foods from at least
three different food groups, such as an omelet with Cheddar cheese and
diced vegetables, or cereal with milk and fresh fruit.
Snack smart- Stock the fridge with healthy, nutritious grab-and-go snacks
like string cheese, portable yogurts and single-serve containers of milk.
Eat together- Family mealtime is a great time to model healthy eating
behavior and to make sure your kids eat a balanced meal.
Don't skip the milk- Recent research finds that children who included
calcium from dairy foods in their diet had lower fat than children with
lower dairy calcium intakes.
Be a good role model- Drink your milk too.
