PRINCIPAL’S PAWSE
I would like to thank the Chaires community members who have begun to show
their generosity by donating money ($2), canned goods, gently used books,
cat or dog food, and toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, wash cloth, soap,
deodorant, lotion) as a part of our Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts. If
you haven't had a chance to donate, we will be accepting all of the items
listed above through September 23rd. You may also be able to help in other
ways. If so, please fill out the bright red form that came home in Friday
folders today and send it back to the school. We've already had one family
offer up a spare bedroom for a young child or single parent with a young
child! As we enroll children that have been displaced by the hurricane, we
will do our best to communicate those family needs so that we can take care
of our own!
We still need your help! Some children are being dropped off at school
before supervision begins - this is a safety concern! Supervision
officially begins at 7:00 a.m. At this time, you will see school employees
on duty wearing bright yellow safety vests. If you arrive before 7:00, it
is not okay to drop your child off. At Chaires, we strive to provide the
safest environment for your child. We are able to do so only with your
help. Please be sure to wait patiently in the line at the car ramp until
Ms. Stephens comes on duty at 7:00. Or, if you walk your child in from the
front parking lot, please be sure to wait until you see Ms. Melvin come on
duty at 7:00 on the bus ramp. You can't miss those bright yellow vests!
That's how you know that we are on duty and prepared to properly supervise
your child! Please help us out by modeling for your child the importance
of following all school rules, especially those related to safety.

Hurricane Relief Efforts
The Leon County school district is coordinating efforts to help provide
assistance to families that have been displaced because of hurricane
Katrina. There are many ways that you – as a member of our school family –
can get involved.
Each school is currently involved in fundraising with a school goal of $2
per student, faculty, and staff member. This activity has already begun
and will run through Friday, September 23rd. All financial contributions
will be greatly appreciated.
At Chaires, we also will be accepting the following donations:
School–wide – all children and staff are encouraged to donate $2 each.
Media & Pre-K – gently used books that will be sent to children in shelters
Third Grade – canned goods that will be sent to families in need
DARE Officer & 5th grade – dog and cat food for animals whose owners were
not able to take them into shelters with them
Student Council – comfort kits for American Red Cross (toothbrush and
paste, wash cloths, soap, deodorant, lotion)

MCCASKILLS CORNER
Parents, we need your continued support in making sure supervision has
started before you leave your child at school in the morning. Supervision
begins at 7:00am. Our boys and girls are doing a wonderful job in the
cafeteria with following the rules when the RED light is on. There are
still some boys and girls that are not following the rules and we want them
to make the adjustment as quickly as possible. We have had a fantastic
week and we are looking forward to another great week. "As a team, we have
the courage to make amazing leaps."

Rent-a-Sign
Rent the sign in front of the school, by the Extended Day Portable, to say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, OR GOOD JOB to that special someone. To
reserve your space, complete an order form in the front office. We rent
the sign for $15.00 starting on Saturday or Wednesday. If you would like
to rent the entire week the cost is $30.00. Space is limited and will be
on a first come, first serve basis.

A Big Thank You!!
Mrs. Davis, Ms. Flynn, Mrs. Mayewski and their classes would like to thank
an anonymous donor, and the Battle family for "two" new refrigerators this
week! They feel truly blessed and are still trying to recover from the
shock of receiving two refrigerators on the same day. Again, thanks a b-u-n-
c-h!

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SCOUTING AND THEN SOME
Come and join the Cub Scouts on September 13th and find out everything you
want to know about Scouts. We will hold an informal “Meet and Greet”
immediately after the Open House activities, beginning at 7:15 in the
Cafeteria. Mr. Mark Snyder from the local council will be our guest
speaker explaining the benefits of having your son join Cub Scouts and
answer any questions you may have. We will also have each of our den
leaders available to answer any questions.

Physical Activity Tip of the Week
The more active you are the better your body works. Pick an activity that
you like to do so that it is easy to keep doing them. Limit your screen
time (TV, Computer, video games, etc.) to less than two hours per day. Get
your friends and family involved. Good examples of activities are walking,
dancing, bike riding, and playing ball with friends.

Vision and Hearing Screening
We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who came in to help
with the vision and hearing screening on Thursday. They are: Pam Hunter,
Margaret Thomas, Shari Laster, Mary Beveridge, Tracy Janicki, Kathy
Punausuia, Tracy Canter, Tasha Anderson, Ruth McKain, Cathy Burnsed, Carol
Bundick, Sabrina Cole, Julie Sander, Joyce Hunter, and Kenny Hunter. We
appreciate all your help.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for these upcoming events!
Please note that the items with an X indicate that we will be seeking
parent volunteers to assist us. If you are able to assist, please
contact the front office by calling 878-8534.
