Scholarships and Programs
(Applications are available in the Guidance Office)

***Remember…students should not pay ANY money to receive help with locating
scholarships.  DO NOT give money to agencies that guarantee scholarship
prizes!***

Seniors – let me know where you have been accepted!  We will have a display
titled, “ACCEPTANCES 2006” in the Guidance Office to show off our seniors!

Career Explorations Workshop – FSU will be hosting a Career Explorations
Workshop for high school students.  The workshop will be six weeks long and
take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  If you would be
interested in attending, contact Mrs. Rudd in Guidance.

Seniors can now apply for Bright Futures and other types of Florida
Financial Aid.  See the following directions for assistance.
1. Go to www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org.

2. Click on State Grants, Scholarships, and Applications (on the left).

3. Click on the third bullet on the left (Apply Online: Initial
Student).

4. Read the important information they have listed in the six
categories.

5. Click on Proceed to Application.

6. Read and answer EVERYTHING!

7. Make sure you print a copy of your application.

**Everyone (even if you have taken Dual Enrollment) needs to choose “First
Time College Freshman” when asked what they will be classified as in Fall,
2006.

**DO NOT enter a college GPA even if you have taken Dual Enrollment classes.

The FAFSA can now be completed.  Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov for an online
application.

American Business Women’s Association – This scholarship is available to
males and females who are in the 12th grade.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship – This scholarship is for seniors with a 3.0
GPA.

University of Tampa – Admissions Open House will take place on the
following dates:
Oct. 16; Nov. 13; Feb. 19; April 9.  Visit www.ut.edu for additional
information.

Environmental Sciences Institute Summer Camp – FAMU – This camp is for
upcoming 9th – 12th grade students.  The camp lasts from June 5th – June
25th and runs from 8am – 5pm.  Applications are available at
www.ecsc.famu.edu.

Tallahassee Museum – The Tallahassee Museum is looking for volunteers for
the summer.  If you are at least 15 years old, come by the Guidance Office
and get an application.

Gator Encounter – The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is hosting
an Open House on 4/22.  More information is available at www.cals.ufl.edu.

Lincoln High School/FAMU High School – This scholarship is for a senior who
has a 2.5 – 3.0 GPA.  Students must have two years of a foreign language
and have scored either a 1,000 on the SAT or a 20 on the ACT.

Anne Massey General Scholarship – A $750 scholarship is available to a
senior with a 3.0 GPA.

Norma T. McGuire Native American Scholarship – A $500 scholarship is
available to a senior with a 3.0 GPA.  Student must be able to submit proof
of Native American descent.

LCPAPA Scholarship – A $500 scholarship is available to a senior with an
unweighted 3.0 GPA.  Student must intend on becoming a certified teacher in
Florida.

Florida Credit Union League – A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a
senior student who will be attending college in the state of Florida.
Students must have a 2.5 GPA and belong to a Florida Credit Union or have a
parent/guardian who is a member.  Additional information is available at

Institute for Television, Film & Radio Production (ITRP) – Boston
University is hosting a summer program for high school students.  The
program runs from July 10th – August 11th.  More information is available

TCC Scholarship Opportunities – There are 5 scholarships available to
seniors who will be attending TCC.  Students must have 3.0 GPA.  Other
criterion may be added by each department.  Each scholarship is worth
$1,000 are in the following categories:  The Jeff Bradford Scholarship
(fine arts); Technology Scholarship; Math and Science Scholarship; History
and English Scholarship; and a Business Scholarship.  Students must be
nominated.

Any Rand Essay Contest – 11th and 12th grade students have an opportunity
to win scholarship money by reading and writing an essay on “The
Fountainhead.”

Jay Hogg Memorial Scholarship Award – This $500 scholarship is for a senior
student.

The Junior Statesmen Summer School – This program is for 9th, 10th, and
11th grade students who are interested in politics and current events.

Association of Godby Graduates’ Legacy Scholarships – This $500 scholarship
is for a graduating senior who has a relative who graduated from Godby High
School.  It is only eligible to those seniors who will be attending TCC and
have a 3.0 GPA.

The Davis Scholarship – This $1,000 scholarship is for a senior with a
(weighted) 2.75 GPA.  Students must plan on going to TCC.

Kiwanis Club of Lake Jackson – Cougar Community Service Scholarship – This
scholarship is available to a Godby High School senior.

United Daughters of the Confederacy – There are three scholarships
available to students who are descendants of Confederacy Soldiers or
Sailors.  One scholarship has a deadline of 2/15 and the other two are due
5/1.

2006 Eagle Preview Dates
Thursday, 5/11/06 from 5:30pm – 8pm.
This event will be held on TCC’s campus.  Two $500 book scholarships will
be given away.

Harvard Scholarships for low-income students – Honor students whose family
makes less than $40,000 a year have an opportunity to go to Harvard and not

High School Volunteers Needed¬ – The Family Learning Center needs high
school students to help with tutoring programs.  This is a great
opportunity to earn community service hours.  Come to Guidance for more
