This is just a reminder that in order to improve our end of day dismissal we have enabled a hands free "announcing feature" on the Pikmykid Parent App. This will allow the app to detect your location when you are close to the school and automatically "announce" your arrival so that your student can be dismissed. Before this afternoon's dismissal please open your Pikmykid app, navigate to the Account Tab and toggle on the Auto Announce setting.
Out of an abundance of caution due to severe weather, the school day is being delayed by one hour on Thursday, April 11th. Students who attend the Before School Program may arrive at 8:00 AM, all other students may be dropped off beginning at 8:45 AM, and the school day will begin at 9:30. All bus pick up times will be delayed by 1 hour. If your child's bus normally picks up at 7:10 AM, for example, they will be picked up at 8:10 tomorrow. As you are aware, our school will be closed tomorrow as we brace for any possible impacts caused by Hurricane Idalia. Our district has also made the decision to keep schools closed on Thursday, August 30 too.
Once the storm passes, LCS staff will evaluate any impact to our schools and make a determination for school operations on Friday.

In accordance HB 1069 (2023), Leon County School Board has approved the attached process for those parents that would like to limit their child's access to media center and classroom libraries.
Only parents that want to limit their child's access through, Parent/guardian Permission, will need to complete the FOCUS form. LCS plans to open Media Centers for student check out on Monday, August 14th. If you plan to limit your child's access please complete form as soon as possible. The directions for completing the FOCUS form are on the attached form.
Dismissal is changing! We are excited to be partnering with PikMyKid, a web-based dismissal program that should make dismissal quicker and more efficient. Simply download the app, then scan the QR code specific to your child provided by their teacher.

If you placed a re-order for a yearbook, they have come in and are ready to be picked up in the front office. The office is open from 7:30-4 Monday through Thursday. All district offices will be closed on Monday, June 19th. We will see you soon!
Report Cards will not come home with your children tomorrow. Final Report Cards will be available for pick up at school after 12:00 PM on June 1st. You will also be able to access your child's report card via The Parent Portal on that same date. This is just a heads up so that you don't expect Report Cards tomorrow, the last day of school.
Though it seems quite unbelievable, we are down to the last few days of school! I'd like to share a few reminders to help us have a strong, safe finish to this academic year:
1. The last full day of school is this Friday. Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are EARLY RELEASE DAYS. Students will be dismissed at 12:20. Please be sure that you have made transportation arrangements for your students.
Many of you have inquired about the possibility of ordering more yearbooks. If we get a minimum of 25 orders we can certainly move forward with a re-order. The cost would be $30 per book and they wouldn't arrive until after school has already closed for the year. If you are interested please call the front office and speak with Ms. Bryan. If we hit a minimum order of 25 we will move forward!

Any current 5-7 grade students that will be attending Swift Creek in the Fall and are interested in playing volleyball at Swift Creek are encouraged to attend a parent/ player meeting on Tuesday, 5/16, at 4:00 in the Swift Creek Gym. Summer conditioning, tryout schedules, and practice information will be discussed. A flyer is attached with the information.
We are celebrating our teachers and staff ALL WEEK LONG! We have special lunches and treats planned and we are so excited for our teachers and staff to feel the love this week! Your child should have come home with a list of their teachers' favorite things. Please take a moment and find a way to show your appreciation for all of the love, dedication, and hard work that our amazing teachers and staff have poured into your little ones this year.
This Thursday is "Take Your Child to Work Day" for students in grades 3-5. If you plan to take your child to work with you, their absence will be excused as we look forward to this great opportunity for our students! Please be sure to send them with a note on Friday.
Only 5 weeks left of this school year! Next Monday, April 24th at 6pm, we will have a meeting to get ideas for events and fundraisers for the next school year. Also, we will be submitting nominations for the PTM board. We hope to see everyone at the meeting.

I wanted you to be aware that today a fire alarm went off in our building. We immediately evacuated because it was evident that no student had “accidentally” pulled the alarm 😊. Because we could not specify the area of concern, I was not comfortable allowing students back in building 1 until we were assured that it was completely safe. This did create a bit of a disruption, however, all of our students and teachers responded as expected and made us so proud! We were given the all clear after an inspection and normal school operations continued.

March 2nd is National Read Across America Day, a day to celebrate our favorite activity. The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. This morning, we were alerted of the possibility of a weapon on campus. Administration and our Guardian, Ms. Bowdry, acted immediately and thankfully no weapon was found, but something that closely resembled a weapon was discovered. We are in need of a DAC (District Advisory Council) representative for W. T. Moore. This awesome individual would be responsible for representing Moore at monthly DAC meetings (where reps from every school in LCS gather to make decisions and receive information on behalf of our district) then reporting back to our school's PTM (Parents and Teachers for Moore) and SAC (School Advisory Council) in a joint meeting once a month.

I want to make you aware of a bus incident that happened this morning. The driver of bus C-81 was picking up children in a near-by complex. As he was making his turn, the bus scraped another vehicle which was parked. All children on the bus are safe, no child was hurt. The bus did arrive at school late, however, we have made sure that each child received breakfast and have gotten them settled in their classrooms.

Mrs. De Cardenas brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience with 20+ years of service to Leon County Schools as a Teacher, Reading Coach, and Assistant Principal. Mrs. De Cardenas is the fabulous mother of two adult children and is originally from Miami. She attended FSU and decided to make Tallahassee her home! Swift Creek Middle School's Extended Day Enrichment Program will start taking Registrations for the 2017/18 school year on Tuesday, April 4 at the 5th grade parent meeting that will be held here at Swift Creek Middle School in the Cafeteria at 6:00pm. Our Fun Run kicks off on Thursday (3/24)! This program will teach students valuable character traits and help our school raise funds for our students and staff.

Since the onset of the 2021-2022 school year parent pick-up lines have created major traffic back-ups and road blockages district-wide. The lack of bus ridership is the main culprit. Schools and the district offices have received a large number of complaints from the public and local businesses.

The IB Prep Magnet Program at Fairview is an accelerated academic program with a focus on the Global Community. Students are advanced in all curricular areas, not just a few, and have the opportunity to explore world languages, the arts, and computer coding and programming, along challenging and enriching core subjects. Twelve IB Prep teachers, trained in the IB philosophy and curriculum, work in teams at each grade level to provide students with a unique and challenging academic experience. The IB Prep curriculum is based on international standards, giving the accelerated curriculum a focus on the Global Community, along with
Mustangs, our Lost and Found area is running over with jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes. We are out of room! Please have your child stop by the cafeteria to look for their lost items. Any items not claimed by the end of next week (January 28, 2022) will be washed and donated to a local charity.
