Yesterday we announced changes to our COVID-19 protocols which were in line with current guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Hours after our announcement we received information from the State of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) that is not in line with the CDC. By law we are required to follow all rules as set by FDOH. We are excited to share the availability of a new resource for Leon County students in grades 3-12. Our school district has partnered with Edmentum to offer FEV Tutor, a 1-on-1 live tutoring platform available on-demand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can use this service to obtain help with assignments from their teachers, including homework help. It will also be a fantastic resource for students who need support completing schoolwork at home during a period of quarantine.

LCS Wellness Wednesday is December 16

In times of uncertainty, unpredictability, and potentially overwhelming stress, it is especially important to deliberately pause to identify resources and activities that can help us maintain our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Leon County Schools partners with Capital Regional Medical Center to provide Mental Health Workshops for LCS Parents

Four workshops will be presented via Facebook Live covering topics designed to help parents be on the lookout for signs and symptoms that their child may be experiencing depression, anxiety or increased stress. Each presentation will be led by an expert in the field and begin at 6:00pm live on the Leon County School's Facebook Page. The presenters will cover important information and then take facilitated questions from online participants.

At the school board meeting last night, the board approved an additional teacher planning day for Monday, November 2nd. This is in addition to the already scheduled teacher planning day of Friday, October 30th. For students and parents this means the 1st nine weeks will end on Thursday, October 29th. There will be no school for students on Friday, Oct. 30th and Monday, Nov. 2nd. Students will return on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Brick & Mortar students will bring home their 1st nine weeks progress reports today. Digital Academy students and parents will be able to access their progress reports online in FOCUS. Learning Option for 2nd Nine Weeks

The School District has opened the window for parents who wish to change their learning option for the 2nd nine weeks (starts Tuesday, November 3rd). If you wish to change the Learning Option for your student(s), you can call the school at 487-7043 and ask for Ms. Joyner starting today through Friday, October 9th. You will not be able to make a change after Friday, October 9th - no exceptions. If you plan to keep the same learning option you don't need to do anything.

We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our staff and students know what to do in an emergency. Our students and staff did a great job today during our lockdown drill. As you may already know, our school uses STAR and iReady Assessments to help teachers understand what students need to know and what they are ready to learn next. Typically, these assessments are given throughout the school year to monitor student progress and are administered in the school setting. Part of our normal testing plan includes a fall baseline assessment. After careful consideration, we have decided to move forward with this plan but will be proctoring the assessment remotely. It is time to fill our vacant School Advisory Council positions. The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a decision-making group made-up of school administrators, teachers, parents, community members, and other stakeholders.

The goal of SAC is to assist in making decisions about the mission and educational purpose of the school. Each year, SAC members assist in drafting the goals set forth in the School Improvement Plan and help to monitor the status of these goals.
