Dear Sealey Parents,
Today is an exciting day as our school district enters a new chapter. I am pleased to share with you the official new logo for Leon County Schools! The district is evolving our brand to reflect both the excellence we strive for every day and the diversity within our school system. The district hired a local marketing firm and have worked with them, hand-in-hand, over the last months to rebrand LCS and develop a comprehensive marketing strategy based on the latest market research, focus groups and decades of expertise.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2024 Spring Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child’s school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example – one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K – 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

To LCS parents and school communities—

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

To our District community -

Being in the state capital there are many opportunities for our students to participate in off-campus civic events at the request of their parents.

As a follow- up to an email sent on February 14, 2023, please see the paragraph below:

Should a parent/legal guardian choose to allow their student to participate in a civic or legislative event, they should follow LCS attendance policies (LCS Policy 5200) and procedures and sign their student out from school, and/or notify the school of the expected absence and the reason for the absence. These absences will be excused

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Yesterday we announced changes to our COVID-19 protocols which were in line with current guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Hours after our announcement we received information from the State of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) that is not in line with the CDC. By law we are required to follow all rules as set by FDOH. Positive students will now be required to stay home for 10 days unless they receive a negative Covid-19 test and are asymptomatic or have a note from their doctor allowing them to return to school. Please see

As you may know, LCS is currently experiencing a shortage of Substitute Teachers. As such, we are working hard to ensure appropriate coverage in the classroom to support continued learning and safety while we have staff members out. Because the need for reliable substitutes is often greater than the existing pool, we are asking for your help.

Good evening, Sealey families. This is principal Demetria Clemons with exciting news. Our school is moving away from printed flyers and to a new "electronic backpack" system. Our school has its own online backpack where school information, calendars, activity information from enrichment providers, and school letters will be posted.

We are working with Peachjar on this new system. Just go to the front page of our school website and click on the orange Peachjar button to check it out.

This morning when we woke up our region was in the clear from immediate impact from Tropical Storm Fred. However, as we all know, these things can change rapidly. Late this evening the National Weather Service extended the official Tropical Storm Warning to include Leon County. Dear LCS Families-

Today I reiterated that in order to keep all students safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and classrooms, we are temporarily requiring all students, Pre-K to grade 8, to wear face masks while indoors and on buses. For our 9 - 12th grade students who have the opportunity to get vaccinated, masks are strongly encouraged. We will require masks for both Pre-K-grade 8 students and district employees until September 6, Labor Day, when the mask requirement will be readdressed.

Dear LCS Families-

In a press conference today, I shared important COVID-19 updates. I want to make sure you are fully informed and have asked our principals to send this email to all of our school Listservs.

Attached you will find a copy of the letter I sent to Governor DeSantis requesting local autonomy and flexibility to allow a temporary mask requirement for Pre-K-8th grade students. As you know, these students are currently not vaccine eligible; they are our most vulnerable students.

Parents, if your child is attending Digital Academy and has received a device from their school, please note:

The driver for the Wi-Fi adapter has already been loaded onto the machine. You do NOT need to use the disk to load anything. Simply plug the wi-fi dongle into a usb port and it will work.

STUDENTS RETURN ON THURSDAY, September 14th. We will be so glad to see our Sealey Superstars!

Good evening—

We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief as Leon County was spared from the worst of Hurricane Irma. Our team has spent tireless hours caring for evacuees from throughout our state and here locally. Last evening, 11 of our schools hosted 3,000 people in shelters. The administrators at those schools never hesitated to step up. Staff from throughout the school district volunteered their time and materials to ensure that things ran as smoothly as possible.

Message from Superintendent Pons:

As we prepare to re-open school on Wednesday, September 7<x-apple-data-detectors://1>, we are fully aware of the challenges many families are still experiencing. I have instructed all of our principals to exercise extreme flexibility with regards to all attendance matters. If families are still having extenuating circumstances relating to this extreme weather event, those absences will be excused. Thank you for your patience as we prepare to re-open schools.
