In consultation with the National Weather Service and Leon County Emergency Management we have made the decision to delay school start times tomorrow (4/11/2024) by 1 hour. The National Weather Service and Leon County Emergency Management are predicting that a strong line of thunderstorms will be passing through Leon County between the hours of 3-7am. Therefore, in the abundance of caution, we have made the decision to delay the start of the school day.

The Administration just received information 30 minutes ago from the Sheriff's Department that they are investigating threats of violence towards James S. Rickards High School on Tuesday, 26, 2023 Leon County Schools Safety and Security office has been notified. Currently, there are no credible threats to any specific individuals on campus. Before the end of 1st period, Rickards Security staff identified two students entering the Main Office. An immediate investigation revealed one student had a loaded handgun. The Leon County Sheriff's Office arrested the student for a weapon on school grounds. According to the Leon County Schools Student Code of Conduct, this is a Zero Tolerance Offense (LCSB 5500); therefore, the student will receive the appropriate consequences. At approximately 1:40 pm, just before dismissal, the Administration received information that a student may have a firearm on campus. The Administration determined the student had a BB Gun in their possession and confiscated it.
