To LCS parents and school communities—

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 - 2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child's school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example - one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K - 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

We have been made aware that some Leon County School’s staff and student email accounts have received “phishing” emails. Phishing emails are becoming more common throughout our digital world and LCS works to train and educate our staff on the problem these scams can lead to—as evident in the attached information form the Leon County Sherriff’s Office.

As you may have heard by now, the Florida Department of Education issued an executive order recently regarding the state assessment program. These assessments, the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA), the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test 2.0 (FCAT 2.0), and the Florida Standards Alternate Assessment (FSAA), are typically administered each Spring.

Because of the Pandemic, these assessments were waived in Spring 2020. However, the FLDOE has affirmed that the assessment program will be reinstated for Spring 2021. The Department of Education has expanded the testing windows to allow for the schools and school districts to plan for the implementation of these assessments.

Unless you are contacted by them directly no further actions will be required. Unfortunate as they are, these exposures illustrate the importance of everybody doing their part to mitigate the transmission of this virus: remaining home while ill or waiting for test results for Covid-19, keeping surfaces safe and sanitized, using adequate hand washing, wearing masks, and ensuring social distance. We take our dedication to the welfare of your child seriously and are

Need to create a new Focus Parent Portal Acct?
With our new Focus system, the Parent Portal now allows you to create your own account to access your children's available information. You can use ONE single acct that allows you to see ALL your children using that same account! You will need the Parent Portal letter from the school with your child's PIN # to register an acct. (If you lost or did not receive the letter with your child's PIN # on it, you MUST contact the school. The Helpdesk can NOT provide the letter or PIN#).

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2019 Spring Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child’s school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example – one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K – 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

Dear Gradebook User,

[cid:image002.png@01D31828.E5DB7680]The Parent Portal has been closed over the summer as we prepared for the 2017-2018 school year. It has been adapted for a better mobile experience.

With the Parent Portal reopening, all students and parents will be able to access the Portal as soon as their schools issue the Parent Portal letters with the usernames and passwords. Accounts follow students throughout grades K-12 so if you had access last year or changed your password from the default, it will be the same credentials as last year. Parents,

As you are aware, the solar eclipse will occur on Monday, August 21st. With much consideration and for the safety of our students, we will keep them inside during the eclipse which is 5th period (2:00 p.m.-3:15 p.m.) We will not switch to 6th period on Monday, August 21, 2017. Students will be dismissed at 4:10 p.m. from their 5th period class. We are working to have the opportunity in class to watch the eclipse via their classroom Smartboard by using a link provided by NASA. (https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/)

Does your child have medication in the school clinic? This is a reminder for you to pick up the medication on or before the last day of school.

Leon County Schools (LCS) medication policy states that medication must be picked up within one week of the ending date on the permission form. Please remember that students cannot transport medications, therefore, all medication must be picked up by a parent/guardian.

I am often asked by people not connected with the Leon County School System (LCSD), what would I improve, if I had a magic wand. My answer is usually pretty simple - Parent Involvement.

I would increase parent involvement/support to 100%. My response does not suggest that parents are not involved. That is simply not the case. Parents are visiting the school, connecting with teachers and the administration, scheduling parent conferences without prompting, offering to volunteer, attending Open House and other parent involvement events. Parents are also supportive by attending athletics contests. With that said, we have not reached our

---A note of thanks and congratulations to all:

I have been energized by athletic competitions and inspired by musical and theatrical performances. I am honored to have been a small part of your educational journey.
