The National Weather Service and Leon County Emergency Management are predicting that a strong line of thunderstorms will be passing through Leon County between the hours of 3-7am. Therefore, in the abundance of caution, we have made the decision to delay the start of the school day.

The PURPLE bus is having mechanical issues and is still at KLES. The district is sending a replacement bus. This could take 30-60 min. All students are safe at the school. If you would like to come pick your child up, please come to the front office.

Over the weekend, the Safety and Security Center noticed an individual come on campus and attempt to start a small fire in the back area of the school. Investigators were on campus this morning looking into the incident further. At no time were any students or staff in danger.

The SAC is the committee that deals with issues relating to school improvement. In accordance with HB 1069 (2023), Leon County School Board has approved the attached process for those parents that would like to limit their child’s access to media center and classroom libraries.
Only parents that want to limit their child’s access, through Parent/Guardian Permission, will need to complete the FOCUS form. LCS plans to open Media Centers for student check out on Monday, August 14th. If you plan to limit your child’s access, please complete the form as soon as possible. The directions for completing the FOCUS form are on the attached documents.

The SAT-10 test is the standardized test given to first and second grade students.

Bad Weather Dismissals: When there is bad weather during dismissal time, KLES will take every step to keep our students SAFE.
Yesterday's dismissal is one example. The northside schools were under a severe thunderstorm and lightening warning per the National Weather Service and Leon County Schools. Although there was light rain, dangerous lightening was present.
If you took your child to work with you today ---- you will most likely receive an automated phone call from the county saying your student was absent. Remember, for them to be excused for today's absence, you will need to submit to the school a written statement on the employer's letterhead verifying that the student participated in the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day by Monday, May 1st. When those are received, their attendance will be changed manually, so it might take a few days to get corrected.

The Florida Department of Education has updated the names and coding of events that are to be reported in the School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting (hereafter referred to as SESIR.) SESIR pertains to safety incidents that occur on campus. SESIR events are not exclusive to students, and anyone who commits a SESIR worthy act on a school campus will have their action listed on that schools SESIR report. On January 17th, new guidelines were introduced for SESIR reporting from Rule 6A-1.0017,F.A.C, School Environmental Safety Incident Reporting. The first time you are on campus you must have your driver's license scanned. You will need to get a visitor's badge each time you sign in. This badge must be worn at all times when on campus.

We have opened up the 2023-2024, 2024-2025, 2025-2026 LCS calendar survey to the community for their feedback. The calendar survey link will be open until Monday, February 6 at 5 p.m. The calendar survey link will also be shared on Peachjar, the district website and social media, and 1095 TV.
