Hello Hawks Rise Families,
We have been focusing on Kindness for the past couple of weeks, and it is a joy to see the many acts of kindness from our students. In addition to discussing ways to be kind to others, we also discussed using your words to let someone know if they have hurt your feelings. Some of the phrases students can use are, "I don't like it when you do that. I don't think that is funny. When you say that, it hurts my feelings." I told the students that these are sometimes hard to say to their

Hello Hawks Rise Families,
What a wonderful week we had here at Hawks Rise! Monday we had the Principal’s Book Chat, and we enjoyed discussing the book, If You Traveled on the Underground Railroad. We also enjoyed Famous Amos cookies, a brand created by Wallace Amos, a Tallahassee native, and we created a Freedom Quilt which will be displayed in the cafeteria. On Wednesday, we were decked out in red and pink with hearts everywhere for Valentine’s Day. Our students enjoyed special science experiments, writing activities, art lessons, and treats as we celebrated our day together.

To LCS parents and school communities-

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

Hello Hawks Rise Families,

Happy February! We are off to a wonderful start with our first Friday lunch today. I know the students loved their treat from PTO!

* Our teachers have been busy reviewing the data from our 2nd Progress Monitoring session. We will be focusing on teaching the remaining standards for each grade level and on providing interventions for students who need some extra support. With only four months left in this school year, every learning day is extra important!

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 – 2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child’s school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example – one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K – 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

These past three years have been a challenge for all of our students, parents, faculty, and staff, but everyone worked together to help our students grow. I am so proud of the progress our students have made this school year, both academically and socially. This growth is a result of the combined

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 Spring Parent/Guardian Climate Survey.

If your child is a classmate of the COVID-19 positive student, you will receive an email from your homeroom teacher indicating classroom exposure.

These situations, unfortunate as they are, highlight the importance of everyone doing their part to minimize the spread of this virus: consider being vaccinated, stay home when sick or while waiting for COVID-19 test results, keep things clean and sanitized, utilize proper hand washing, wear masks, and maintain social distancing.

Dear LCS Families—

As we look ahead to the second nine weeks of the 21-22 school year with a lower COVID community positivity rate and a lower district positivity rate, we are reinstating the Parent Opt-Out of the temporary mask requirement for Pre-K—8th grade while indoors and on buses, as discussed and approved at Tuesday night’s school board meeting. As for employees, the mask requirement will remain in place while indoors, unless six feet of distancing can be maintained.

Happy Wednesday Hawks.

Everyone has been doing an incredible job in helping maintain the health and safety of our students and staff at Hawks Rise. Thank you. I appreciate the thoughtfulness, patience, and grace you have shown.

The number of reported cases and positivity rates have been declining in our area. Although some of the district procedures have been modified, we ask that families continue to monitor student symptoms (Congestion, Headache, Fever, and/or Cough have been main symptoms), keep students home when ill, and contact the school when a student or direct family member test positive or if your student

Hawks Rise families,

We are excited about the launch of our new digital flyer platform, Peachjar. You may have begun receiving emails from this system sometime last week.

[cid:image001.png@01D7AFB1.D5A63230]

Peachjar is an “electronic backpack” we can use to deliver flyers directly to parents, saving paper that could easily get misplaced or accidentally thrown away. We will share important flyers with school news and events, and community organizations may also promote events and activities. This system will solve the problems we’ve had in the past with emailed flyer attachments not coming through or getting distorted when we try to send them

Please see the message below from the district regarding school closures tomorrow due to Tropical Storm Fred.

This morning when we woke up our region was in the clear from immediate impact from Tropical Storm Fred. However, as we all know, these things can change rapidly. Late this evening the National Weather Service extended the official Tropical Storm Warning to include Leon County. As a result we are closing all schools and district offices for tomorrow Monday, August 16th.
Thank you.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community,

Today, we were informed of a positive case of COVID-19 at Hawks Rise. An e-mail was sent to students in the classroom, through FOCUS. Contact tracing investigations were conducted and you will be contacted directly if further actions are necessary.

Please monitor your child for any symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms may appear several days after exposure to the virus. If your child is experiencing symptoms that require testing, please keep the student home until the test results are received. If you notice any symptoms (fever, runny nose, sore throat, difficulty breathing, stomach distress, etc.),

Please see the updated letter below from the Superintendent.

Dear LCS Families—

As we plan on welcoming our students back in class tomorrow, and in order to keep ALL students and staff safe, we are requiring Pre-K to 12th grade to wear face masks while indoors and on buses. We will require masks for both Pre-K—12th grade students and district employees until September 6, Labor Day, when the mask requirement will be readdressed.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Faculty, and Staff,

We were notified that an employee tested positive for COVID-19. The employee is currently at home in quarantine until cleared by the Leon County Department of Health.

I have communicated with those who were exposed. These exposures, unfortunate as they are, highlight the importance of everyone doing their part to minimize the spread of this virus: stay home when sick or while waiting for Covid-19 test results, keep things clean and sanitized, utilize proper hand washing, wear masks, and maintain social distancing.

Dear LCS Families-
Today I reiterated that in order to keep all students safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and classrooms, we are temporarily requiring all students, Pre-K to grade 8, to wear face masks while indoors and on buses. For our 9 - 12th grade students who have the opportunity to get vaccinated, masks are strongly encouraged. We will require masks for both Pre-K-grade 8 students and district employees until September 6, Labor Day, when the mask requirement will be readdressed.
If this temporary requirement is
