As we return to school, we are again faced with Covid challenges, this time it is the highly contagious Omicron variant. Omicron is much more transmissible than the Delta variant, however, estimates suggest that the hospital stay risk is much lower than Delta. There have been no local hospitalizations of school age children in the last several months and there are currently no pediatric hospitalizations. We certainly hope this continues to be the case..

Good morning everyone,

I wanted to let you all know that Second Harvest will be hosting our annual turkey distribution this Saturday, November 20th at Governor's Square Mall. We will begin handing out the food starting at 9:00 am. We will be there until we run out of food, or until 12:00 pm (whichever comes first). We will be giving out a dry goods box, a box of fresh produce, and a whole turkey to about 1000 families. If you have students or families who would benefit from this food during the holiday, please pass this information along.

Good evening,

Today one of our students was picked up from Griffin Middle School by law enforcement. The student was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center( JAC). During a search of his possessions, a firearm was discovered. The student was arrested with a felony charge. The actions of this student is a poor reflection on the amazing student body we serve at Griffin Middle School. The school will move forward with a recommendation for expulsion.

Dear Parents, Guardians, Faculty and Staff,
We received notice that an employee has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been quarantined. If your child was in a classroom with the COVID-19 positive employee, you have received a letter from FOCUS to your documented email address on file.

Over the next 24 hours the Leon County Department of Health will contact anyone who potentially had close contact with this student and advise them of the next steps they must follow. A close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes.

In order to streamline communications we are making a slight change to the reporting of positive on-campus Covid-19 cases. Beginning next week, we will be sending out one email at the end of the day instead of the possibility of receiving multiple emails during the day.

No other protocols or procedures are being changed at this time. We continue to follow the Safe Start LCS plan approved by a community Task Force and monitored by the Covid-19 Rapid Response Team. For the James S. Rickards High School football team, the road to the FHSAA Class 5A title game during a national pandemic has been filled with challenges at every turn. Yet the Raiders continued to persevere and remained united in their unwavering belief in their coaches and in one another. It was a road never-before-traveled, but one that has taken them to a history-making destination. This Friday at 7 p.m., the Raiders will be playing for a state championship at Doak Campbell Stadium. LCS Wellness Wednesday is December 16

In times of uncertainty, unpredictability, and potentially overwhelming stress, it is especially important to deliberately pause to identify resources and activities that can help us maintain our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Superintendent Hanna and the entire LCS family understands that the 2020-2021 school year has presented challenges to students, teachers, and families. Students are experiencing increased levels of anxiety and depression due to having to maneuver through new ways of learning and attempting to stay connected with others while also social distancing.

Good morning,
The first two weeks of October of each year are Disability History and Awareness Weeks. This celebration was created by section 1003.4205, Florida Statues. The law encourages schools to provide information about disability history and promote the awareness of the contributions of individuals with disabilities.

One of every five Americans is a person with a disability. A person may be born with a disability, may acquire a disability through an accident or illness, or may acquire a disability simply as a part of growing older. Despite the fact that disability is a natural part of life, people with

Parents, if your child is attending Digital Academy and has received a device from their school, please note:

The driver for the Wi-Fi adapter has already been loaded onto the machine. You do NOT need to use the disk to load anything. Simply plug the wi-fi dongle into a usb port and it will work.

I wanted to give a quick set of updates as the start of school draws nearer! There is a lot of information included in this email - so please read carefully!

1. A general school supply list has been attached to this listserv. Please keep in mind that teachers may have a few specific requests when school starts but this should help to get your student started! Many local groups are sponsoring backpack/school supply drives - be on the lookout for that information if that can be of assistance to your family.
