Good Afternoon Parents!

Our district has been informed that the ongoing issues with delivery of Listserv emails cannot be solved. Email companies such as Google and Yahoo have filters set that are significantly delaying or denying the delivery of messages from our system. Beginning this week we will be using Focus to send messages to parents of all students. The messages will come from my name, but will appear with a very long email address. You may need to find the messages in you spam folder and mark them as safe for delivery to ensure

Good Morning Parents!

In addition to a few updates below I wanted to share a link that might be helpful for you. If your child is in Kindergarten through 3rd grade you may have seen a UFLI Foundations Home Proactive sheet come home from time to time. This sheet is very helpful to the development of your child's reading skills, but it is often confusing. If you have been confused or just wonder how to do a part of the sheet, please click the you tube link below to watch the video.

To LCS parents and school communities—

As Americans living in the melting pot of the world, nearly all of us have a connection to the global community, as well as to past and current events happening around the world. These connections may cause us to feel strongly one way or the other with regard to global conflicts, such as the ones presently occurring in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere. Our students are witnessing the division on all sides, and of course have their own opinions and reflections.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to improve our schools, the Leon County School District is conducting a 2022 - 2023 Fall Parent/Guardian Climate Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you please take the time to complete this survey based upon your experiences at your child's school. If you have children at multiple school sites (example - one child in elementary school and one child in high school), we respectfully ask that you complete one survey for each school. If your children attend Ft. Braden or Woodville K - 8 School you only need to complete one survey.

We enjoyed meeting all of our future Yellow Jacket families this week at Kindergarten Orientation. It is always exciting to see our newest students and families and we cannot wait to get to know them more in August! As a reminder, Kindergarten registration is currently open for the 2022-23 school year. Please visit our website for more information.

I spoke to all of our students prior to testing and asked each of them to simply try their best, and they did! Our 6th principal's AR challenge ends today, with rewards distributed next week. Our next round of room transformations also started today, with our 3rd grade classrooms transforming into bakeries. Our

Good morning. Over the weekend, geese visited our campus, made a nest, and potentially laid eggs. Since this has occurred, the geese have stayed close to the nest and been very protective of the area. Unfortunately, their nest sits between our playground and fields.

Due to this, we have transitioned our playground and recess areas to keep students away from the geese. Later this week, a wildlife expert is scheduled to assess the situation and determine the best outcome. Until that time, we will continue to remind students to stay clear of the nest and follow our modified recess plan.

After Spring Break, all students in 3rd-5th grade will be starting our Bike Safety unit in PE. In order to be able to ride a bike at school, all students MUST wear a helmet. Today our students participated in a virtual dance party during special area classes. This officially ended our Boostherthon character education and fundraising event. I am excited to announce that we met our schoolwide goal! Thank you for your help in reaching this goal. In the coming weeks, students will participate in a Science lesson on making slime and get the opportunity to slime Mr. Koerner. Don't worry, videos will be posted on our Facebook page! Thank you again for all of your support!

Good morning,

Leon County schools are moving away from printed flyers and to a new "electronic backpack" system. Our school has its own online backpack where school information, calendars, activity information from enrichment providers, and school letters will be posted.

We are working with Peachjar on this new system. Just go to the front page of our school website and click on the orange Peachjar button to check it out.

We had a great four day week of school this week! I wanted to thank all of our families for their support this year. While academics are always important, the physical and mental health of our students and families are out top priority. Finding a balance between these areas can present challenges, but I am extremely thankful to our students, parents, faculty, and staff for their continued diligence in supporting these goals. We ask that all families continue to practice safe and healthy behaviors. Practice social distancing, mask wearing when appropriate, frequent hand washing, and keep

There is a threat of significant rain this afternoon during dismissal. In the event of a rainy day dismissal, our bus, van, and car lines will dismiss as normal. We will hold our walkers until approximately 3:00 and release them as normal if the weather allows. If the weather has not cleared by 3:00, however, we ask that "Walker" parents plan on picking up walkers from the front of the school, at our bus loop, once our busses clear. This will only apply to our walkers and only occur if the weather does not permit their traditional release.

Good afternoon, Yellow Jackets!

Happy Friday! As we finish the third week of school, I want to take a moment and thank all of our stakeholders- students, parents, faculty, staff, and business partners, for their role in our successful start to the school year. It takes compassion, flexibility, understanding, and cooperation between all of these groups to make sure our students are successful. I encourage parents to keep an open line of communication with their student's teacher this year. A connection between teachers and parents will not only provide support if a student is struggling in a specific situation, but

Late this evening the National Weather Service extended the official Tropical Storm Warning to include Leon County. As a result we are closing all schools and district offices for tomorrow Monday, August 16th.

We welcomed over 700 students on campus today, and all students made it to their classrooms and had a safe and healthy first day. I am thankful to all of our students, parents, faculty, and staff for making today a success. Students met their teachers, made new friends, had fun, and learned a little bit along the way. We will continue to work through challenges to ensure all students have a

Please see an updated letter from the superintendent.

Dear LCS Families—

As we plan on welcoming our students back in class tomorrow, and in order to keep ALL students and staff safe, we are requiring Pre-K to 12th grade to wear face masks while indoors and on buses. We will require masks for both Pre-K—12th grade students and district employees until September 6, Labor Day, when the mask requirement will be readdressed.

Most of this was e-mailed in our list serv yesterday, but I have included a letter from the superintendent below.

Dear LCS Families-

Today I reiterated that in order to keep all students safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and classrooms, we are temporarily requiring all students, Pre-K to grade 8, to wear face masks while indoors and on buses. For our 9 - 12th grade students who have the opportunity to get vaccinated, masks are strongly encouraged. We will require masks for both Pre-K-grade 8 students and district employees until September 6, Labor Day,

Today, Superintendent Hanna made several updates to Leon County Schools' health and safety plan. We have attempted to include many of the district procedures, along with school-based procedures, that will be used to create a safe and healthy learning environment for the start of school. While all of these procedures will help reduce the possibility of COVID spread, it is critical that families monitor their household's health, keep students home if they have symptoms, and educate students on hand washing, social distancing and mask wearing. Please keep students at home if they, or someone in their household, tests positive for

Please see an update from the superintendent.

Dear LCS Families—

In a press conference today, I shared important COVID-19 updates. I want to make sure you are fully informed and have asked our principals to send this email to all of our school Listservs.

Attached you will find a copy of the letter I sent to Governor DeSantis requesting local autonomy and flexibility to allow a temporary mask requirement for Pre-K—8th grade students. As you know, these students are currently not vaccine eligible; they are our most vulnerable students.

Good afternoon, Yellow Jackets!

Today, the Florida Department of Education released individual 2020-2021 FSA test scores. While we are still reviewing the data, the scores reflect our expectations understanding the educational environment we have experienced over the past 18 months due to COVID. We will continue to review the data and make individualized decisions to continue to support students. I am proud of the effort our students, teachers, and staff have exhibited over the past school year, despite the many challenges they faced. We are asking parents to wait on requesting student data until next week, as Leon County Schools

Good morning, Yellow Jackets!

Following the school board meeting last night, I wanted to provide an update regarding procedures and practices for the upcoming year. Superintendent Hanna and the Leon County School Board have carefully reviewed plans for school openings and established guidelines for all schools. While some of these practices are modified from my previous communication, they were determined to provide students the safest environment for the start of the year. District and school personnel will continue to monitor COVID's impact on our community and make adjustments to our practices. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as

This morning we received notice of positive COVID-19 results from our EDEP Summer program. The positive individuals are home in quarantine until they receive clearance from the Department of Health. We are currently communicating with the families and the Department of Health to determine appropriate contact tracing and quarantining requirements. Students and staff who were in close contact of a positive case will receive a phone call explaining their required quarantining process. Close contact is defined as continued contact for more than 15 minutes inside of six feet.

Good afternoon, Yellow Jackets!

Today was a wonderful last day of the 2020-2021 school year! I wanted to thank everyone- students, parents, teachers, and staff- for a great year. This year presented many unique challenges, but everyone's patience, flexibility, compassion, and grace made this year a success. I am appreciative to be a part of such a caring community, that was brought even closer together during this difficult year. This week, we held our 5th Grade promotion ceremonies, field days, and ended today with our final AR celebration and our student council sponsored twin day. I love the many activities

Good afternoon.

Today, I met with the yearbook company for an update on our school order. Unfortunately, this year's yearbooks will not arrive before students dismiss for summer tomorrow, 6/10. There are circumstances out of the school and company's control that have delayed their arrival. I am disappointed that the yearbooks are delayed but have worked with the company to provide options to our families who have ordered yearbooks.

We recently received notice that a Conley student tested positive for COVID-19. The student is currently home in quarantine.

An e-mail will be sent to students in the classroom, through FOCUS, and a letter will be distributed to the impacted class today. Contact tracing investigations will continue and you will be contacted directly if further actions are necessary. We believe, at this time, that social distancing was maintained and no further actions will be required.

Good afternoon, Yellow Jackets!

Today is the last Friday of school for the 2020-2021 school year! It has been a great week, as our teachers begin the completion of their standards-based instruction and begin focusing on enrichment and end of year celebrations. Everyone has done a great job this year focusing on whole student growth- academic, social, and emotional, while navigating through the pandemic. It is great to see so many smiling faces and celebrations, they deserve it! We currently have about twenty yearbooks remaining for sale to celebrate the successes of the school year. The cost is $30 cash
