Earlier today we sent a flyer with information about our Winter Dance. Several of you pointed out that we had the date listed incorrectly. Thank you for helping us correct this! The correct date is Friday, February 11. The dance will be held in the Cobb Gym from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Tickets are $5 and will be sold before school the week of the dance. The regular school dress code applies. Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase for $1 each. Proceeds from the event support Cobb PTO.

The Lucky Goat Coffee Fundraiser is HERE! It's Cobb PTO's one BIG fundraiser of the year.

Attached you will find the order form you will use to collect your orders. Students can also get a copy from any of their teachers.

The plan is simple:

-Collect orders- be sure you have collected money and marked the amount of coffee each person is purchasing.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Yesterday we announced changes to our COVID-19 protocols which were in line with current guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Hours after our announcement we received information from the State of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) that is not in line with the CDC. By law we are required to follow all rules as set by FDOH. Positive students will now be required to stay home for 10 days unless they receive a negative Covid-19 test and are asymptomatic or have a note from their doctor allowing them to return to school. As we return to school, we are again faced with Covid challenges, this time it is the highly contagious Omicron variant. Omicron is much more transmissible than the Delta variant, however, estimates suggest that the hospital stay risk is much lower than Delta. There have been no local hospitalizations of school age children in the last several months and there are currently no pediatric hospitalizations. We certainly hope this continues to be the case..

If your child is considered a close contact and will have to quarantine, you will receive a phone call from the school and a FOCUS email with specific quarantine dates. As you may know, LCS is currently experiencing a shortage of Substitute Teachers. Because the need for reliable substitutes is often greater than the existing pool, we are asking for your help.

School Advisory Highlights

This morning when we woke up our region was in the clear from immediate impact from Tropical Storm Fred. However, as we all know, these things can change rapidly. Next week, we are opening up a digital form where students can record their preferences for the elective courses they would like to take next year. PBJ PLZ! is now in its 5th year!

Together WCTV and Leon County Schools have collected nearly 23 tons of peanut butter and jelly and when COVID-19 forced the drive online last year, the community rallied and raised more than $66,000 for Second Harvest of the Big Bend to buy PBJ and other kid-friendly foods.

Applications for Cobb Middle School's Applied Science & Technology Magnet program are now available. In this program, we engage our students with a hands-on learning approach that encourages skills necessary for the 21st century such as creativity, problem solving, and teamwork. They are able to explore their interests through a wide range of electives, including performing arts, technology, and agriculture programs. We push our students with a College Board certified Pre-AP Curriculum that helps students excel and leads to high school credit. Finally, in order to prepare global citizens, we work to educate the whole child with a social-emotional curriculum

Hello Cobb family:

Students today during sixth period received their ID cards from our photo company. All of our face to face students received those today, and all of our digital academy students who came to take photos were sent their ID via US mail.

I wanted to take the opportunity to remind you all of our cell phone and headphone policy at Cobb Middle School.

Cell phone are not to be used during school hours. If they are seen or used during a class period, they will be confiscated.

Students may not have wireless headphones during the school day. These do not connect to the school-provided devices. Instead, students must have a wired pair of headphones for class. If they forget theirs, a pair may be purchased for $1.00.

Debuting today through the Leon County Sheriff's Office website is the page for online reporting of specific crimes. Attached below is the link to check out what will qualify for online reporting. If an online report is completed, you will receive a message indicating the report was submitted and a tracking number for your report. Next, you will be able to print a temporary copy of the report for your records and will be contacted be an LCSO member for potentially additional information and the status of your case. Leon County Schools partners with Capital Regional Medical Center to provide Mental Health Workshops for LCS Parents

Four workshops will be presented via Facebook Live covering topics designed to help parents be on the lookout for signs and symptoms that their child may be experiencing depression, anxiety or increased stress. Each presentation will be led by an expert in the field and begin at 6:00pm live on the Leon County School's Facebook Page. The presenters will cover important information and then take facilitated questions from online participants.

Picture Day is coming up! On Thursday 10/29, students will sit for their 2020-2021 school portrait.

Face-to-face students will be escorted to the gym by grade and predesignated time. All students and faculty members will be required to wear a fabric or paper mask covering their noses and mouths, and use hand sanitizer before entering the gym for their photo. They will sit for their photos, remove their mask temporarily, and replace it upon completion of their portrait. Students will exit the gym with their teacher and return to class.

Fall sport try-outs will be next week - Monday, September 14th - Wednesday, September 16th. Try-outs will be from 4:15 - 5:30 each day, and students must have a current physical and an activity participation form on file with Mr. O'Banner in order to participate.

Good morning!

As the Chromebooks were delayed in their arrival, we are passing out Desktop Computers to our students in digital academy to get us started. The desktops will have WiFi adaptors and web cameras so that students can fully participate in online learning.

Good morning!

Leon County Schools is delaying the start of fall sports until September 11. In middle school, we will have Cross Country and Softball season.

Cobb Middle School tryouts for both of these sports will begin on Monday, September 14. Practice will begin at 4:00pm and end at 5:30pm. Students in digital academy may participate in afterschool athletics; however, they must check in with Mr. O'Banner prior to participation.

Cobb Families,

Instead of having a traditional orientation, we will be having a 1st Day of School - 1st Period Teacher Orientation through Canvas. On August 27th at 9:30, students will log into their Canvas accounts and access their 1st Period course. There, they will be able to meet their teachers on a Zoom call - as a parent you can join in with them on the same device. We will share what the first day of school look like, trouble shoot any problems with access, and answer your questions.

Tentative schedules are posted in FOCUS. Changes may still be occurring at the school sites so schedules may NOT be final until the first day of school.

All parents and students in grades 6-12 will be required to acknowledge new protocols for the 2020-2021 school year in order to access FOCUS. Parents will have to complete separate acknowledgements for each student linked to their account when they log in. Elementary students will cover the new protocols with their teacher.

Hi!
Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the beginning of this year, we are unable to provide our teachers the lunches and breakfasts that we usually do during their prep week before school starts. We still want to do something though, so we are asking for donations to stock the teacher breakroom with grab and go snacks and drinks for the next 2 weeks while teachers are on campus preparing for digital and classroom instruction.

To our Cobb Families:

During the 20/21 school year, we will be using digital instruction for all of our students - both those on campus and in the digital academy. All textbooks and assignments will be in our learning management system - Canvas. This will allow our students and teachers to have a single platform to deliver and receive instruction; submit assignments; get updates; communicate; and more. Cross Country Tryouts (Boys/Girls)
Tryouts/Practice begin August 24th from 4:00 - 6:00PM. Students interested being a member of Cobb's Cross Country team must submit a current year Activity Participation Form and a current year physical (See attached). Our goal for this year is to increase means and frequency of communication. We know how important being able to quickly share information is, so we are shifting our focus to raising the remaining funds needed for the digital marquee board to put on the corner of Hillcrest and Miccosukkee. As we approach the start of school, I want to give some guidance to the parents and students that have chosen to participate in this program or for those of you are considering switching.

Student Schedule -
Students will be scheduled into the same courses that they would have brick and mortar, and they will follow the same 3x3 schedule that the school is following. This means that three times per day, they will be logged into the computer for 30 - 45 minutes of live, interactive instruction with their teacher. They will have time

Deputy Kelly, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Department, is reading one of our summer reading books live each weekday beginning at 10am. This book is on our list and participation can count as students project fulfillment.

To Our Cobb Community:

Today at 3pm, the Reopening Task Force will be presenting information to the school board in the form of recommendations. This information will be another step in our plans for opening.

At Cobb, we are working with teachers to help ensure the safety - both physically and emotionally - of our students. We spent the weekend making sure that we could space desks six feet apart, working on lunch processes, and planning for our 1:1 initiative.

As most of you know, because of National School Lunch Program Community Eligibility Provision, all Cobb students have access to breakfast and lunch at no cost. Because of this, all students are eligible for a Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-BET) card. Students have received (or will receive) an EBT card in the mail by June 30. This card has been loaded with a one-time benefit of $5.70 per day for 55 day, which comes to $313.50 per child.
