It's beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas around the school and outside. There are many wonderful things happening at school this week.
First, we have the "Holiday Shop" taking place all week long in the media center. The shop is open from 9:00-2:30 each day and gives students the opportunity to bring in their money to purchase gifts for mom, dad, siblings, and other family members, friends, and teachers. The Leon County Schools’ Title I Office is administering the Parent and Family Engagement Survey for Fall 2023. The survey allows our school and the district’s Title I Office to understand the aspects of the parent/family and school relationship. Attached is the registration packet for our afterschool EDEP program. This program accepts students in Kindergarten - 5th grade.
Early registration is now underway so get your packet turned in to the front office and reserve your spot before they are gone. There are a limited number of spots at each grade level. Ms. Everheart the Program Director will have a table set up at Orientation on August 8th for parents to register but avoid the long lines by getting yours in early. Once spots are filled students will be placed on waiting lists.
Attached is the registration packet for the 21st Century Afterschool Program. This is a FREE afterschool program for students in 3rd-5th grades only. Students who were in the program last year will be given first choice on a first come first served basis. Once all spaces have been filled names will be placed on a waiting list.

An individual was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department this morning on the campus of Astoria Park Elementary.
Shortly before 10:00 a.m. the individual made their way on to the campus. An LCS School Guardian and LCS staff persons immediately confronted the person and after a brief interaction, the person was physically restrained by the guardian until a TPD officer could arrive.
There are still about 20 yearbooks left for sale. It is filled with lots of pictures from the school year and a few special pages dedicated to our awesome retirees Ms. Leon and Coach Hollenbeck. The price for the yearbook is $18.50 and can be paid by cash or money order made out to Leonard's. You can stop by the office to purchase one.
Tomorrow is the last day of school. We have hundreds of books that have not been returned to the library. This is thousands of dollars in library books that are needed back or if lost paid for to help replace them.
Please check the cars, under the beds, sofas, and bookshelves at home so that they can be returned tomorrow. Books not returned will remain on your child's account. Parents, Your child's most important test of the year will take place over the next two weeks. Students will take the Florida FAST Language, Math or Science tests to show all the information they have learned throughout the year. It is so very important that your child gets a good night's sleep, is on time to school, and has a filling healthy breakfast before testing.

The fair will start on Monday May 8th and run through Friday May 12th. If you would like to come have lunch and take your child shopping one day during the week, you can do so between the hours of 11:30-1:30 each day. There are two camps that will take place at our school this summer. We have our Extended Day Educational Program (EDEP) and our 21st Century Program. Both will offer fun, educational activities, events, and field trips. Please see the attached flyers and forms that can be printed, filled out and returned to the front office.

This Friday (3/10) is a special Sock Hop dance for the students. We need some parent volunteers who can come and help from 9:00-1:30. The students will have an opportunity to purchase snacks so we need volunteers to help run the snack station as well as supervise during the dance.

Astoria's office and school will be closed March 13-17. Monday March 20th is Teacher's Planning Day - NO SCHOOL for students. School will resume on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

The Tallahassee Fire department, Tallahassee City Utilities and Leon County District staff arrived and have given the all clear for students to return to the building for dismissal. There will be no EDEP, Afterschool tutoring or 21st Century programs today. School will resume it's normal hours on Friday, March 3, 2023. If you have questions, feel free to call the front office.
Astoria Park has evacuated the building due to a possible smell of propane. All staff and students are safe and away from the building. Our district has been made aware of a civic-engagement event taking place at the Capitol on Wednesday, February 15. Hi Parents We have a fun week planned at school as this is "Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!". This year the theme is "Take a Deep Dive into Literacy". Each day of the week we have a fun activity or dress up day that correlates to the Ocean theme.
Attached you will find the list of activities that are planned each day. Tomorrow students are to bring a blanket or beach towel to have a "Book-Nic with a Buddy" day. Students will pair up with their buddy and read a book together either outside or in the classroom.

Second Harvest will be hosting their annual Turkey Drive-Thru distribution at the Governor's Square Mall. The location will be in the parking lot between Sears and Dillards on Saturday, November 19th. Distribution is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am but families are highly encouraged to arrive early as they only have enough food for 1000 families.

Join us for the Title I Dads Take Your Child to School: Roundtable Discussion! at Fairview Middle School on September 21st at 6:00pm. The Florida Department of Education’s Dads Take Your Child to School Day initiative serves to highlight and support fatherhood engagement in education by helping schools foster this important connection with fathers and father figures. Our LCS Title I workshop will empower fathers and father figures to utilize conversation as a tool in strengthening the relationship with their child. Dads taking their child to school is much more than the physical act.

Title One and Envision Credit Union will present a Financial Education Workshop tomorrow night (9/7) in the media center from 6:00-7:00. This is a workshop for both parents to get information about "How to Make Budgets Work" and for students to learn about "Saving with New Skills" .
Refreshments will be provided and each family will be given a $5 Amazon gift card for attending.

We are just days away from the start of the new school year. The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, August 10th. Students should be at school by 8:25, which is the first bell. The grant for the 21st Century program at Astoria Park has reached its final year. On July 28, 2022, the grant will close. Our office has reapplied for the grant, and we are patiently waiting for the Department of Education to approve the new grant. Please understand there is no guarantee that the 21st Century Program will receive the grant. However, if we receive approval, it will cause a delay in after school programs starting. Parents, The Leon County Schools’ Title I Office is administering the Parent and Family Engagement Survey for Spring 2022. The survey allows your school and our district’s Title I Office to understand the aspects of the parent/family and school relationship.
The survey administration period is Monday, April 11, 2022 through Friday, May 20, 2022.
Leon County Schools will be participating in the National Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday April 28, 2022. Students in grades 3-8 are eligible to participate. Please note, however, that the school principal has the authority to deny participation if it would interfere with the completion of state required assessments.
